Malabrigo sources most of its wool from free-range Uruguayan sheep, herded on open hillsides using traditional shepherding methods, with mulesing-free practices throughout. Each colorway is hand-dyed, which gives Malabrigo yarns their signature depth and gives every skein subtle, natural variation — part of the appeal, and part of why buying enough yarn for a whole project at once (and alternating skeins as you knit) helps even out any color shift.
Our selection spans several constructions and weights. Sock (fingering), Arroyo (sport/DK), and Rios (worsted) are plied and superwash, giving them clean stitch definition and machine washability. Rasta, Chunky, and Caracol are non-superwash super bulky and bulky yarns with a looser, more rustic twist that knits up fast and shows off hand-dyed color in bold, painterly strokes. Mohair, a kid mohair-silk lace blend, adds a soft halo and can be knit alone or held together with a heavier base for extra warmth and depth.
