House Yarn & Fiber

Our house yarn is dyed locally by Jackie Ottino, Heavenly Yarns' owner, whose background is in natural dyeing under her own label, Forage Color. This collection covers three things unique to us: house-dyed yarn, breed specific farm yarns spun from fleeces we've personally selected, and hand-dyed roving braids for spinning — all exclusive to Heavenly Yarns.

Jackie brings years of dyeing experience to our house yarn, having spent time teaching and practicing natural dye techniques with botanical dyestuffs like madder root, indigo, and cochineal before taking over Heavenly Yarns. Our house-dyed yarn itself is dyed with commercial dyes rather than natural ones, giving Jackie a wider, more consistent color range to work with while she continues developing the line. This includes Helen, a wool base offered in fingering, DK, and Aran weight.

Fiber of Maine Breed Specific Yarn are farm yarns, spun from fleeces we've personally selected rather than sourced from a general wool supply — a good option for knitters who want to work with a particular sheep breed's characteristics and know where the fiber actually came from. For spinners, this collection also includes hand-dyed roving braids, dyed here in the same small-batch approach as our yarn, ready to spin into your own custom yarn.

Because these are hand-dyed, small-batch products, some natural variation between skeins or braids of the same colorway is part of the character — buying enough for a whole project at once helps keep color consistent throughout.
