Bright orange 100% wool yarn sounds almost like an oxymoron, but it really exists! We think Bartlettyarns may be the only domestic yarn company producing it, and lucky for us because Bartlettyarns is in Maine. Bartlettyarns has been producing yarn since 1821 when Ozias Bartlett founded it in Harmony. It sits along side Higgins Stream in a vintage mill building that holds the last remaining working spinning mule in the United States.
We are offering this yarn in a 2-ply worsted weight (knitting at 4 1/2 stitches per inch) or a single-ply super bulky (knitting at about 2 1/2 stitches per inch). Each four once skein of worsted has 210 yards and the super bulky has 80 yards. This yarn responds well to blocking: softening it and smoothing the stitches. We also have this colorway in the Bartlett Sport weight.
The color of this yarn would be considered a "hunter's orange" and turned into a hat or mittens, it would make a great gift.
We are offering the Nezinscot Farm Hat pattern free upon request. The inside band of this hat can be made with cotton (or any other very soft yarn), making it perfect for anyone who may be wool sensitive, as well as offering an extra layer on the ears.
The bulky weight is currently out of stock.
With the purchase of the bulky weight yarn, we are offering the Dexter Mitten pattern. Using #11 and #13 double point needles, you can knit a pair in an evening! Or the Falmouth Super Bulky Hat pattern, which can be knit in an evening as well. If you are interested in either of these free patterns, please request them at checkout.
