Piper from Quince & Co. is a very special yarn. They sourced super fine kid mohair from Texas and blended it with super fine merino from South Africa to make a lighter-than-air, almost lace weight single-ply yarn. Piper has a pretty halo and a subtle sheen, thanks to the long, silky fibers of the mohair. Knit it on a larger needle if you want, it fills in nicely. Great for sweaters, hats, and, of course, shawls or cowls.
Each skein weighs 50g and has 305 yds (279m). It will knit to 7 st/in on a US3 or 6 st/in on a US5. Made in South Africa.
One of our favorite shop samples is the Fleurette Cowl by Sarah Solomon. Knit using just one skein of Piper, this cowl is light and luscious. The pattern is available for download for $5 from Ravelry.
We designed the Lake St. George shawl for our Fiber of Maine subscribers. It is an introductory lace pattern, interspersing a simple four stitch repeat with rows of garter stitch. Not only do the garter rows provide structure and visual interest, but they also offer an easy place to rip back to, should the need arise. The pattern is available for download for $5 from Ravelry.
