Nezinscot Farms (worsted)
Nezincot Farm, in Turner, offers many different mixes of spinning fibers and yarns from their farm. We don’t believe there is a consistent mix; they seem to mix what they have available from their animals, some of which they dye at the farm.
If you read our July blog post, you may already know that it is a gem of a destination located in the middle of rural Maine. You can spend a long time at the farm touching fiber, visiting the gardens and animals, and eating delicious food. And if you don’t purchase any yarn there, you may not be able to get it anywhere else - except here!
At the moment, the skeins we have are a blend: 50% wool; 25% alpaca; and 25% mohair. They are 240 yard/4 ounce skeins. We gauged this yarn at 4 1/2 sts. to the inch on a #8 needle. The yarn feels natural and has a lovely hand. This yarn would be great for a sweater, vest, mittens or a hat.
In August, Fiber of Maine subscribers received a skein of this yarn along with a skein of cotton (from a Maine company), and a pattern to make the Nezinscot Farm Hat - a simple hat with a deep cotton hem. We are offering that option to you as well; one skein of Nezinscot worsted, one skein of cotton and the pattern. One kit should make two hats!
During the month of October, we are offering the Nezinscot Farm Hat free with the purchase of this yarn or with the purchase of Bartlettyarns' Blaze Orange.
The cotton yarn colors in the kits are as follows: autumn kit has a pear color; berry has a chocolate color; lichen has a pear color; light teal has a grey color; teaberry has a terracotta color; and undyed has a natural color.
