This 2-ply woolen-spun natural yarn embodies rustic sophistication. American alpaca from small east coast farms is blended with Rambouillet wool from farms in South Dakota. The fibers are scoured, carded and spun at a historic New England mill, and hand-dyed at their Northport studio for a truly all American yarn.
We knit this yarn at 4 1/2 stitches to the inch on a US #7 needle, but we think you can knit it at a looser gauge too - close to 4 stitches to the inch for a knitted or crocheted accessory. The skeins are 80 grams and contain 210 yards. One skein is all you need for a hat; one skein will also make a cowl or a pair of mittens.
This yarn is a pleasure to knit. Because we have detected absolutely no itch factor whatsoever, we think this yarn is a great choice for a hat, cowl, or any knitted project that will touch your skin. Don't be limited by thinking of accessories only - we encourage you to make a sweater!
We created the Maine Sea Captain's Hat using this yarn. Pair the yarn and pattern for a great gift!
This is wonderful yarn, it makes lovely soft, warm hats, and knits up beautifully. I'm on my 3rd Sea Captain's hat now, and the colors are gorgeous too. I highly recommend the yarn and pattern!
