Nature offers us all the colors of the rainbow, we just need a little science to coax them out. This workshop is perfect for the absolute beginner to the more experienced dyer looking to learn a few new tricks. Dyeing wool yarn, we will work with 8-10 different dyestuffs in several forms: wood shavings, fresh plant material, dried plant material, insects, roots, extracts…. and create around 15 colors.
We will go over fiber selection and prep, proper mordanting, and how to maximize our efforts for deep rich colors.
Class fee covers all yarn, dyes and handouts. You will leave with at least 15 mini skeins, around 700-800 yards, enough for a small project.

This class is taught by Jackie Ottino, the new owner of Heavenly Yarns. Jackie has been dyeing yarns and teaching dye workshops since 2010. She has taught dyeing at all the major yarn festivals as well as many private events around the country. This will be her only Maine workshop for 2025. Hope to see you there!

- A lunch/snacks/drinks
- Note taking materials if you want to take notes
- A basin or plastic bag for taking home damp yarns
- While we are not too sloppy, it’s best not to wear your finest clothes to dye class
